The Big Bristol Abseil - FAQs Why can’t The Big Bristol Abseil go ahead later this year? The last few months has been an unprecedented time for staff at hospitals not just in Bristol but across the country, and we still do not know how the coming months will look. We do not want to put increased demand on NHS staff when they have already been dealing with the increased pressure from COVID-19 and will soon be heading into winter, which also increases stress on our hospital services. The Big Bristol Abseil presents its own set of challenges and would become not only risky, but less enjoyable if it were to take place in winter. We want to ensure everyone taking part and spectating has the best possible time, which does mean waiting until the warmer months for the event to go ahead. Why has there been a delay in choosing a new date? Staff at UHBW have been under increased pressure over the last few months dealing with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We have not wanted to increase this pressure by pushing them to decide on a new date for The Big Bristol Abseil. Can I get a refund for my registration fee? We appreciate the delay is frustrating and that some of you may no longer wish to take part in The Big Bristol Abseil. If that is the case, you can either request a refund of your registration fee or donate the fee to Above & Beyond. If you would like a refund please email [email protected] What if I can’t make the new date? If you are not available on the new date scheduled for The Big Bristol Abseil, you can either request a refund of your registration fee or donate the fee to Above & Beyond. What about my fundraising? You can continue your fundraising until the new date is announced. We have lots of fundraising tips and ideas or you can contact a member of the Above & Beyond fundraising team. Any money you have raised so far will be used to benefit Bristol city centre hospitals. Unless you have specified a particular area, your fundraising will be used where the need is greatest. What can I tell the people who’ve sponsored me? Once we have a new date for The Big Bristol Abseil we will let you know so you can pass the information on to those who have supported you. In the meantime, you can let people know that their donation is hugely appreciated and is being put to good use in Bristol city centre hospitals. For more information on how we use donations, keep an eye on our website and social media where we post regular updates. How can I get involved in the meantime? We have lots of events and fundraising ideas, including some that can take place virtually. Later this year we’re launching our Bristol Against Cancer campaign and there will be even more opportunities – keep an eye on our website and social media for more information coming soon.
