Hospitals’ charity Above & Beyond needs an enthusiastic, ambitious and motivated Community Partnerships and Events Fundraising Officer (maternity cover) to help grow our community and events income at an exciting stage in the charity’s development.

This is a great opportunity to join an established and growing NHS charity and gain significant experience of community and events fundraising. The successful candidate will have a fundraising background, a passion for excellent supporter stewardship and a track record of meeting and exceeding targets. Key to your role is harnessing the passion of in aid of supporters in the community and within the hospitals, motivating and inspiring them to maximise their support. You will also work across our Above & Beyond flagship and third party event series, including our abseil and Christmas programme of events.

Above & Beyond fundraises for Bristol’s city centre hospitals. We have a passion for improving patient experience and enhancing healthcare in Bristol and the South West and belief in the cause will be fundamental to your work. We are currently home based but will be looking to return to office working later in the year, at our Bristol city centre office.

Job Summary

You will be responsible for harnessing the passion of in aid of supporters in the community and within the hospitals, motivating and inspiring them to maximise their support.  You will recruit new supporters, build relationships and deliver excellent stewardship to engender long term and sustainable support.

The core objective of this role is to increase sustained levels of voluntary income raised by communities in Bristol and the surrounding areas, focusing on building relationships and partnerships within community organisations such as Rotary Clubs, sports clubs, schools and university groups. You will recruit new supporters, build relationships and deliver excellent stewardship to engender long term and sustainable support. Examples of how you might achieve this include proactively recruiting supporters, building partnerships, promoting participation in events both organised by Above & Beyond as well as third parties and pitching for donations. You will offer exceptional donor care, encouraging supporters, creating long lasting, sustainable support. 

You will also work across our Above & Beyond flagship event and third party event series, including our flagship abseil event and Christmas programme of events. You will be highly involved in the event planning, stewardship of our supporters and on the day event logistics.

Role

  • To achieve agreed financial and non-financial targets at an acceptable cost-to-income ratio
  • Recruit new fundraisers to support Above & Beyond and act as the initial point of contact for potential and existing community supporters and fundraisers, delivering excellent supporter stewardship throughout their journey
  • Actively build relationships with community groups, schools, sports clubs and community organisations such as Rotary
  • Support the smooth planning and delivery of Above & Beyond fundraising events
  • Motivate and inspire individuals and groups to support Above & Beyond offering outstanding donor care and effective stewardship and giving appropriate advice about their fundraising activities
  • Work with the Communications Team by developing and implementing community fundraising campaigns, promoting events, and profiling individual fundraisers
  • Work with the Hospitals Partnership Managers provide support to hospital staff in their fundraising efforts
  • Work closely with other fundraisers to swap and generate leads
  • Attend events, pitch opportunities, cheque presentations, photo calls, deliver presentations to build relationships with the community and promote Above & Beyond
  • Research and recommend new ways of raising funds and generating income through community fundraising
  • To ensure all third parties that deliver services or fundraising for us are representing the values of Above & Beyond
  • Adhere to the highest standards of fundraising practice as set out in the Fundraising Code of Practice
  • To work with the Community Engagement Manager to produce regular reports monitoring progress against key performance indicators and provide regular analysis of work areas as required
  • Adhere to the highest standards of community fundraising best practice as set out in the Fundraising Regulators Fundraising’s Code and ensure that all activities comply fully with the relevant Data Protection obligations and any other legislation.

Person Specification

Essential

Skills, knowledge, education, experience           

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of community fundraising with a track record of meeting and exceeding fundraising targets.
  • A track record of generating and building strong, lasting relationships with supporters.
  • Experience of working with community groups, generating support.
  • Experience of recruiting new fundraisers and providing excellent stewardship.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - a real people person.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills with a flair for giving presentations and dealing with large groups.
  • Ability to express the vision and achievements of the charity clearly to a variety of audiences
  • Experience of planning and delivering new projects.
  • IT skills to include confident use of Microsoft Office programs, databases and ability to produce succinct and informative reports.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, self-directed and motivated.
