Above & Beyond has funded specialist equipment to ensure patients in the Acute Stroke Unit at Bristol Royal Infirmary receive the very best care.

The family of a patient treated in the unit made a wonderful donation in his memory as they were so impressed by the dedication, compassion and devotion of the staff.

The kind donation to Above & Beyond has enabled staff in the Acute Stroke Unit, Ward A515, to purchase vital equipment to improve the level of comfort for stroke patients.

A transit wheelchair, positioning cushions, and an assistive device (ReTurn) designed to make the process of standing and sitting as easy as possible for both the patient and care giver have been invaluable for patients undergoing rehabilitation on the ward.

The specialist equipment is above and beyond what the NHS can provide.

Karen Martyn Jones, physiotherapist on the Acute Stroke Unit said:

The positioning cushions have been key in improving the comfort and care of complex stroke patients on Ward A515. The wheelchair is used in therapy sessions but also has enabled more patients to be able to leave the ward with nursing staff and family members. And the ReTurn has enabled more patients to progress with standing practice and standing transfers.

To help fund state of the art equipment above and beyond what the NHS is able to provide, please donate today.
