Who we are News and stories Latest news Paul Kearney appointed as new CEO Above & Beyond is delighted to welcome Paul Kearney as its new Chief Executive Officer. Paul will be responsible for working in partnership with University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust to drive fundraising projects and managing the operational and strategic direction of the charity. Having lived in Bristol for the past 25 years, he has extensive business experience across the South. Paul came to Bristol in the early nineties as Managing Director of Bristol United Press, the fourth largest public company based in Bristol. He then moved to work for the Daily Mail Group in the South East and East Midlands before returning to Bristol in 2006 to take up a career in consultancy. Over the next few years, Paul managed a variety of business interests, including medical services, and ran the successful Bristol 1st Mayoral campaign in 2012. With a strong interest in public health, Paul recently acted as Chairman for Bristol Community Health, the region’s largest provider of NHS adult and children’s community health services. It was this role that led him to apply for the position of CEO with the charity. Commenting on why he decided to take on the new role at Above & Beyond he said: “Seeing the level of care and commitment from our NHS staff inspired me to help make patient care the best it can be. The hospitals have become part of the fabric of everyday life; you might pass them on the way to work, know a member of NHS staff or have a friend of family member who’s benefitted from their outstanding care. In one way or another we’re all touched by the life-saving work that goes one 24/7” he said. He is particularly looking forward to focusing on projects to improve care in four key areas; cardiac, cancer children’s and older care and learning more about the ways to help provide vital funds for state of the art equipment and facilities, welcoming environments, staff training and new research. He is also keen to form more partnerships and collaborations with organisations that support and work within the healthcare sector.
