Nisbets celebrate raising more than £20,000 for Above & Beyond Catering equipment firm Nisbets is celebrating raising more than £20,000 for Above & Beyond. The business has been supporting the charity for the last four years and staff have taken part in the Bristol 10K since the partnership began. This year 20 runners took on the race. Zoe Joyner from Nisbets said: “Our colleagues at Nisbets choose the charities through our Nisbets in the Community committee, underpinning our commitment to our corporate and social responsibility strategy. “Nisbets in the Community match fund all proceeds that colleague raise themselves. We have been supporting Above & Beyond for a number of years through the Bristol 10K. “Although a global business the majority of our colleagues are based in Bristol and will at some time use the city centre hospitals.” This year the money raised will go towards hoists for the Neuroscience Ward and Rehabilitation Unit at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. The majority of children cared for at the unit need to use a wheelchair and because of the nature of their disabilities and injuries are unable to move themselves in and out of bed, to the bathroom or into wheelchairs. This means they need to be moved using a hoist, and, depending on the nature of their disability, this can be happen 10 times a day or more. Currently, the ward has just one mobile hoist for all eight beds. Rosemary Cussen, ward Sister for neuroscience, said: "We hope the unit is a home from home environment, and is a comfort to children and their families who may need to stay in hospital for a long period of time. “The same staff work on the acute Neuroscience Ward and the Rehabilitation Unit ensuring continuity for the children in our care on their road to recovery. “In order to provide this, it’s so important to have the equipment that makes the children as comfortable as possible.” For more information about fundraising with your colleagues contact Catherine Harris on [email protected].
