Who we are News and stories Latest news Golden Gift Appeal Celebrations This week fundraisers, donors, volunteers and hospital staff came together to celebrate reaching the £6m fundraising target of our ambitious Golden Gift Appeal. Above & Beyond staff and volunteers welcomed people to the charity’s Fundraising Hub in the Welcome Centre of Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) for celebratory cake and to talk about what the £6m raised by the appeal has achieved. In the evening, donors and supporters gathered at the BRI to hear about some of the projects funded by the Golden Gift Appeal including: 16 individual inpatient rooms that offer patients increased privacy, dignity and comfort, as well as less disruption Refurbishment of the Emergency Department (ED) including a new information system to keep patients updated on wait times to help reduce frustration and anxiety The first adult bone marrow transplant (BMT) unit in the South West so seriously ill patients can have all their treatment under one roof and not have to visit multiple hospital sites Isolation rooms for young patients with cystic fibrosis to reduce risk of infection The full £6m total was raised thanks to the incredible generosity of individual donors, fundraisers, hospital staff, corporate partners and charitable trusts. A total of 6,298 donors supported the Golden Gift Appeal with 17,282 donations and 53% of the total was kindly donated as gifts in wills. Our CEO, Sarah Talbot-Williams, said: We are extremely proud of our first multi-million pound fundraising campaign, the Golden Gift Appeal and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped us reach our ambitioustarget - it’s a truly magnificent achievement! To see the impact that it has for patients’ experience, for their family and friends, and for the staff who care for them, is incredibly gratifying. The projects funded by the Golden Gift Appeal will make a real difference to the BRI and Bristol’s cancer centre, the BHOC, and to patient care for years to come.
