You can support them – and the patients they treat – by choosing your own challenge based on the number 13.

Walk 13,000 steps a day, cycle 130 miles, hop 1.3 kilometres or run 13 laps around your garden. You could climb 13 flights of steps or hula hoop 130 times. Make the challenge your own and be as creative as possible around the number. We can't wait to see what you come up with!

Why your Challenge 13 matters 

Any money you raise from your Challenge 13 will make a real difference to patients and staff at Bristol city centre hospitals.

Mark Alder is a Clinical Nurse Specialist working in cardiac rehabilitation at Bristol Royal Infirmary. He's also a member of the Bristol and Weston NHS Runners and a supporter of Above & Beyond.

“This is a great opportunity to do something fun while giving back to your NHS” said Mark. “During lockdown, we ran between different Bristol landmarks – you could pick 13 or run 13 miles or kilometres between them.

“Why not incorporate the hospitals into your challenge by walking, running or cycling between them? Whatever challenge you choose, you’ll be raising vital funds for our NHS.”

How to get involved

1. Sign up to Challenge 13 using our simple registration form. It's free, all we ask is you aim to raise £80, or as much as you can. 

2. Start your fundraising. Set up your JustGiving page, set your fundraising target and share your page so that friends, family and colleagues can sponsor you. They could even join you in the challenge!

    3. Share your story. Every story is special so why not share your story to your JustGiving page and social media channels. Let everyone know why you have chosen to support Challenge 13.

    4. Track your kilometres. If you choose to complete a walking, running or cycling challenge, you can keep track of your activity using a fitness app like Strava and watch your kilometres - and your fundraising total - add up.

    You can link Strava to your JustGiving page so your donors can see your updates, how many kilometres you're clocking up and where you're walking, running or cycling.
