The Above & Beyond Appeal

What is the Above & Beyond Appeal?
The Above & Beyond Appeal supports all eight of the hospitals within the University Hospitals Bristol. The hospitals contain many regional referral units and clinical centres of excellence caring for the health of patients across Bristol and the South West.
The aim of our Appeal is to make a difference to the lives of the thousands of patients, visitors and staff who use our hospitals each year. We do this in a wide variety of ways from funding state of the art equipment to providing the small touches such as flowers and artwork which makes patients' visits that little more comfortable.
Little Projects, Big Difference
We believe that major improvements to the lives of patients can be achieved through relatively small projects and to this end we have four projects which we are currently supporting:
Ward 15 Patient Day Room
Bristol Royal Infirmary
Ward 15 is a busy ward at the BRI and treats many of our cancer patients who require surgery. We aim to raise £5,000 to refurbish the patient day room to make it a bright and positive space for patients' to relax in during their stay and to provide a quiet safe space for relatives too.
Preparation DVD for Ward 36
Bristol Royal Hospital for Children
Coming into hospital can be very frightening, particularly if you are a child or teenager as you do not always know what to expect. For this project we aim to raise £7,500 to allow a DVD to be produced which can be distributed to children before coming into hospital so they have an idea what to expect and recognise some friendly faces when they come into the ward!
William Lloyd Unit enhancement
Bristol General Hospital
The Bristol General Hospital is a busy hospital in a beautiful setting next to Bristol's Floating Harbour. The William Lloyd Unit provides a base for all OPD services for Older People. Whilst the standard of care is excellent, the décor looks rather dated. We want to raise £10,000 to give this busy and vibrant department a make over and make it a welcoming space for patients and staff.
Little Equipment making a Big Difference
Bristol Royal Hospital for Children
We aim to raise £8,500 for three small items of medical equipment. We want to buy: a patient warming blanket for use in the busy Paediatric Accident & Emergency Department; the latest technology in saturation monitors for Ward 33; and two infusion pumps for use in the transfer and transportation of childhood oncology patients. These three simple pieces of equipment will make a major difference to lives of hundreds of children being treated in each of these areas.
