We did it!

The new Bristol Heart Institute has now opened its doors to patients, bringing 21st healthcare to cardiac patients across the Southwest. Following seven years of working with patients, staff and the public this state of the art facility will offer the very best in cardiac services to the people of Bristol and beyond.

Above & Beyond’s Heart of Bristol Appeal exceeded its target and raised nearly £850,000 to add value to the £61million NHS funded project. The projects we have supported will make a significant difference to patients and their families.

We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of local people and organizations in helping us to achieve our goal. Money still being raised will be used to support ongoing projects at the Bristol Heart Institute that will make a real difference to patients and their families.

A patient’s perspective…

As a keen artist and former cardiac patient, Peter Ashdown worked as part of the Arts Committee to help influence the look and feel of the new building. Peter commented:

"It has been wonderful to be so actively involved in the new development and to see the finished article looking better than I could have possibly imagined. As a past patient I know how stressful the whole experience can be both for the patients themselves and also for their families. The calming, quality and relaxing feel of the new BHI will certainly help to minimise anxiety at what is such a difficult time for many. On behalf of all patients I would just like to say thank you to all those who have worked so hard to make this new facility so spectacular."
