Arts T Party at the BHI
Bristol
On Monday 27th April, renowned artists Walter Jack, Jan Blake, Rob Olins, Linda Schwab and Marion Brandis saw the culmination of two years work as their artwork was unveiled at the new, state-of-the-art Bristol Heart Institute.
Funded by the Above & Beyond Charities, Heart of Bristol Appeal, the pieces included exterior lighting by Jo Fairfax, a hanging sculpture in the atrium by Jan Blake and Rob Olins, artwork for the patient lifts by Marion Brandis and a sculpture for the Queens Courtyard by local artist, Walter Jack. Designed, fabricated and constructed in Bristol, the sculpture (pictured) took months to perfect. Jack, who has also worked on the seating for the Children’s Hospital was very keen to work with local businesses on the project and found the whole experience inspirational. ‘’ To work here – helping to create a new environment has significant power and meaning for me; to know that my work will contribute to the healing environment of this landmark local building.’
Bob Pepper, Director of Facilities and Estates for University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust said, “The beneficial value of artwork and a stimulating environment has long been accepted as having an important contribution to patient wellbeing and a speedy recovery. This exciting programme of artworks, developed with patients, staff and local residents has been carefully integrated into the design of our new centre. It carries on the precedent set in the Children’s Hospital and illustrates our commitment to providing state of the art clinical care in a first class environment. “
