Breast Cancer is the second most common form of cancer in the UK, with one in nine women diagnosed with the disease at some point in their life. Earlier this year, Above & Beyond supported the production of the You are Not Alone DVD. Created to help newly diagnosed women make informed decisions about their care following a mastectomy, the DVD features a range of patients who have been through reconstructive surgery as a result of breast cancer. They talk frankly about their diagnosis, fear of the unknown, treatment choices and outcomes. The DVD not only benefits women being treated here in Bristol, but can also be used to support women undergoing reconstructive surgery across the UK.
The DVD was developed in collaboration with the Bristol Breast Unit at University Hospitals Bristol, led by consultant surgeon Mr Zen Rayter, the Breast Reconstruction Quality of Life Group, led by Dr Zoe Winters, Consultant Senior Lecturer in Breast Surgery, Department of Clinical Sciences, Above & Beyond Charities and the charity Abreast.
