Local school children rub Bristol up the right way!

The children from Year 3 at St Michael on the Mount Primary School will soon be able to see the result of their artistic efforts surrounding the new Bristol Heart Institute.

Contractors Laing O’Rourke have been working with artist, Linda Schwab to create an exhibition of the children’s designs on the hoardings to the site.

Linda has been working with the children in Year 3 at the school to create a high quality mural/external wall work to cover the north façade of the new building. The north façade is accessible to the public footway connecting Terrell Street to Marlborough Hill and will be used by many of the children for their journey to and from school, as well as being used by local residents, staff of the hospital and the public. The aim is to generate a sense of local ownership and civic pride and to deter graffiti vandalism.

Linda has worked with the children to perfect rubbing techniques and create simple repeat patterns. The children then helped to develop the designs into stencils which will be used to influence the final artwork.

The project is one of 7 artwork commissions funded by the Heart of Bristol Appeal as part of the development of the new Bristol Heart Institute. The Arts Programme aims to help fulfil the vision for this exciting development of delivering a positive and welcoming healing environment.
